Mt. Fuji (World Heritage) Climbing Season Here!

The Official Mt. Fuji climbing Season starts on July 1st (Monday) and this year is expected to be a heavy traffic climbing season, due to the fact Mt. Fuji was just recently added as a World Heritage site on June 22, 2013.

Sky-Fuji

Mt. Fuji attracts about 300,000 climbers a year, usually in the months of July and August, according to the Ministry of the Environment. The number of climbers may also greatly increase with the anticipated status of the 3,776 metre summit. Officials expect 350,000 climbers this year.

Due to the expected heavy traffic of Fujisan, officials are considering charging an entrance fee to climbers for the mountain’s environmental maintenance.
